"This contribution is one of my first, but I hope it will be useful to everyone.
Basically, in the design I have it setup for, it was for t-shirts. When the administrator of the site creates a new shirt (or product), it checks to see if there are any users that want to be notified of new shirts (or products) to each category (or in my case, Towns).
For the user, they can pick their categories/towns by going through the categories and it gives a box on the side (just like notification of updates to product) to be notified of any new products added to that category.
In the "My Account" area, I added another option for viewing your subscriptions.
The next version of this script will include easier customizations, possible control from the admin interface (if anyone wants this, let me know, otherwise it'll be in the defines in the php). It will also have the "Global Category Notifications" working and in the latest MS2.2, since I based this script off of the Product Updates code they had, there is a small bug when you click the remove category/town (or in the Product Updates page), if you have say 10 categories/products, and you want to remove the 5th one down, it removes the 5th one and every one after the 5th, but the other method works perfectly for removing categories/towns/products. I'll also release and update to fix the product updates notifications (Again, this wasn't something I originally had in my code, but since MS2.2's original code has the problem, I'll fix it in the next release).
The next release will also have a .sql file to create everything for you." |
